Let’s go!
The WSN church staffing process has three primary goals: finding the right fit for the church, discovering the ideal new home and community for the candidate, and preventing foreseeable turnover. We achieve these goals by meticulously gathering detailed information from both candidates and churches to ensure alignment.
This comprehensive approach allows both parties to evaluate if they’re the right fit on paper before diving into the interview process. It ensures that expectations and requirements are clearly understood from the outset, setting a solid foundation for the staffing process and increasing the likelihood of a successful match.
Once the process begins, WSN will guide you through each church’s unique sequence of touchpoints, including interviews and tryouts. These interactions offer opportunities for both the church and the candidate to engage in meaningful dialogue, assess compatibility, and explore the potential for a fruitful partnership together.
Ultimately, the WSN church staffing process is about more than just filling a position; it’s about building lasting relationships and creating a positive impact within church communities. By focusing on the needs and aspirations of both candidates and churches, we aim to create matches that are mutually beneficial and sustainable.

Having these materials on hand will save you time as you move through the candidate application process.
We’re excited to share that this is not an exclusive program! This means you’re free to pursue other opportunities on your own. We simply ask that the opportunities we provide remain within our network, which is supported by our non-solicitation agreement. This helps us maintain a collaborative and thriving environment for everyone involved.
Absolutely! Exploring multiple options simultaneously can be a smart move. Gaining more exposure allows you to learn and further validate the communities, environments, and responsibilities you truly love, as well as identify what might not be the best fit for you. So go ahead and explore—it’s all part of the journey!
Each church staffing process can take anywhere from 4 to 12 weeks after the first interview. Typically, this involves a minimum of a couple of interviews, a family gathering to meet the kids and spouse (if relevant), and a few tryouts. Some churches may have additional elements, such as committee reviews and board approvals, depending on the position. WSN will guide you through each step of the process in advance, so you’ll know what to expect!
It’s perfectly okay to hit pause, or opt out of churches on the candidate placement process if you’re having second thoughts. We want to make sure both you and the church are a great match for each other. Sometimes it takes a few interviews and a trial run to really get a feel for the church’s vibe and see if it’s what you’re looking for. Remember, there’s no such thing as wasted effort here—it’s all about finding the right fit, not just settling because you feel bad about saying no. We’ll make sure they’re taken care of, and we’ll send another opportunity your way.
Most of the time! If you find a job that interests you but there are obstacles like finances or time commitments, don’t hesitate to ask us which aspects of the position might be flexible. It’s also a good idea to determine what compromises you’re willing to make and how you’d like to present those to the church. For example, if you need to work 20 hours a week but the church is looking for 30, you could propose working 20 hours and suggest a $X salary adjustment to ensure fairness.
This varies on a case-by-case basis. 90% of churches do compensate candidates for participating in tryouts, while others may choose to cover accommodations instead. WSN will ensure you are informed about the specifics once we reach that stage in the candidate process. If the church does offer payment for the tryout, WSN will handle the scheduling and process your payment through the WSN app.
Not at all! You can join the candidate program without any strings attached. However, if we get to the fun part where you’re doing a paid guest tryout, you’ll need to contract as a guest worship leader through WSN’s contractor app. Don’t worry, the onboarding is super quick—just about 12 minutes! It makes connecting and communicating with the church a breeze. Plus, all our candidates are welcome to use the app for contracting whenever they feel like it. Easy peasy!
