Hate Your Sin: A Romans 1:32 Challenge for Today
Romans 1:32 stopped me this week. Paul writes that although people know God’s righteous decree — that those who practice such things deserve death — they not only continue to do them but also approve of those who practice them.
The whole chapter is a clear picture of God’s wrath against sinful humanity. Paul does not soften the language. In our current culture it is easy to push sin aside, minimize it, or decide it is simply “not my business.” Scripture calls us to a different response.
Hate What God Hates
God wants us to hate our own sin and the sin present in the world. That hatred does not grow by accident. We cannot sit passively and expect it to develop. We must fortify ourselves against it and, as Paul says elsewhere, discipline our bodies and make them our slave.
It Reaches Beyond Ourselves
This is not only about private hearts. The verse specifically names the approval of others who practice the same things. The people we do life with matter. Silence or casual acceptance can become a form of approval.
